motodrome offer this exceptional  1973 Jensen Interceptor III (J-series) finished in White with a black vinyl roof and black leather

A 60’s and 70’s design icon, these are the epitome of the British grand tourer. .

Being a J-series, it’s fitted with the 7.2 litre V8, and as always on a mark III it’s fitted with automatic transmission, power steering, and air conditioning (which on this one has been fully refurbished).

The last owner acquired this one at auction in 2020, where it was graded as ‘average to good’. The intention was to turn it into the best Interceptor he could, of which more below.

When he bought it, the previous owner had had it for 30 years previously, and the enormous history file prior to 2020, which includes the original factory records and goes back to the start of it’s life, make interesting reading.

The current odometer reading of 59500 is, we think, correct given the information in the history, but we can’t guarantee it.

As above, the owner from 2020, a committed classic car enthusiast, wanted to have the best Interceptor possible, but as ever if pursuing this path, the costs tend to get out of hand.

Suffice to say that, examining the huge file of bills in his 6 year ownership, the costs come out at just over £60000.00, excluding the original purchase price.

He did, however, achieve what he set out to do.

It appears that the entire car was pulled apart and rebuilt over 6 years, with documented restoration to

The body and paintwork

The chrome

The brakes

Interior.

The vast majority of the work was carried out by Peter Thetford, a Malvern-based classic car specialist who are well known to us, and have an excellent reputation for the quality of their work.

It’s good enough to be entered into concours in my opinion, but it would likely get marked down at a Jensen concours event as several improvements were incorporated in the build to make it more useable and reliable, such as re-routed engine bay wiring, stainless steel headers, aluminium radiator, central locking, and immobiliser.

But what would you prefer? A trailer queen that might win a trophy or two, or one you can actually drive? This one has been to the Le Mans classic at least once over the past 3 years, which tells it’s own story.

It’s a strikingly elegant looking car that elicits favourable comments everywhere it goes, and it drives absolutely superbly.

At the very bottom of the page, you’ll find our usual 2 videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description. THESE WILL FOLLOW SHORTLY
