1969 Raleigh Chopper Mark 1 tall frame £2995

motodrome offer this original 1969 Raleigh Chopper Mark 1 tall frame

It’s debatable who came up with the original design for the Chopper – both Tom Karen of Ogle Design and Alan Oakley of Raleigh both lay claim to it. Whoever was responsible, they created a British design icon of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.

The Mark 1 was only produced 1969-71 before safety concerns (they’re remarkably easy to wheelie) started to bite and the Mark 2 was introduced, and these days they’re in high demand. Every boy in the early 1970’s wanted one – I know I did.

This one, finished in Yellow, is incredibly rare a) in that it’s original and untouched (with the exception of a reproduction seat strap, b) because it’s a ‘tall frame’ example, and rarer still is fitted with a rear coaster brake.

It still carries it’s original features such as single-tab front mudguard, correct Mark 1 wide handlebars with rake adjustment, correct ‘tall frame’ gearlever set up, correct tall frame chainguard etc.

This one will need some recommissioning work before being ridden safely, (or at least as safe as it’s possible to be on a Mark One) such as new tyres, wheels trueing, and front brake adjusted. But,  if your man cave needs to be instantly transported back to the days of flared trousers, bad haircuts and the 3 day week, this is the time machine to display there.

In the video, I walk around it and also compare it to the modern-day MK4.
