motodrome offer this splendid 1966 Triumph TR4A IRS with overdrive

This one has wonderful provenance, in that it’s only ever had 2 owners from new, both in Wales. The last owner has had it since 1986.

According to the supplied Heritage Certificate, it was built 14th June 1965 and dispatched to the showroom of E Garfield Jones and Son Ltd of Cardigan. Bought new from them by a Mr Robert Gough of Aberdare on 1st July 1965.

Chassis number CTC56257-O is an original UK RHD example, finished in it’s original colour scheme of Wedgewood Blue with blue trim, and is a matching numbers example in terms of it’s body number, engine number, and gearbox number.

Equipped with overdrive, wire wheels, and a full tonneau cover.

Also fitted with woodrim steering wheel, brake servo, revotec fan, hi-torque starter motor, stainless twin-exit exhaust, alloy fuel tank, Goodridge brake hoses, CV joint type driveshafts, Spax adjustable shocks all round, and polybushed suspension.

The last owner tells us he rebuilt the original engine in 2015 (around 13000 miles ago) including higher-quality pistons, and there are bills to support this

Going further through the history, we can see it underwent a body-off restoration in 1990, by a company called Greenfield Garage, and there is a big file of continuous bills thereafter, up to 2026. Recent highlights include 2021 when it again underwent body restoration and a very decent repaint by Evans Restorations, and in 2024 the differential was rebuilt by Peter Cox, a well-known TR specialist.

It starts and drives absolutely superbly, and is full of 1960’s style and character. Great fun for blasting around, with a lovely exhaust note and nicely working overdrive.

The odometer reading is 63000 miles, and we have old MOT’s back to 1992 (ie when the original restoration was finished) at which point the odometer was either zeroed or replaced, so it shouldn’t be taken as the correct total. We don’t have any history prior to the last owner’s acquisition of the car in 1986.

It’s up there with the best of the many TR’s we’ve had through our hands over the years, and importantly, while it’s been cherished and remains in great condition, it’s not been a garage queen as you can tell from the mileage since 1992 – it’s been exercised very regularly indeed.
