motodrome offer this superb original 2003 Defender 90 TD5 G4 Edition station wagon, finished in Java Black with black ‘mogul’ interior
The limited edition G4 was marketed by Land Rover as an ‘expedition-ready’ Defender to commemorate their success in the G4 Challenge. Based on a County Station Wagon, they were further upgraded at the factory with underbody bash plate, soft front A-bar, black checkerplate kit, Safari front roll cage, full length side steps, and NAS Spec rear step,
Inside they were fitted with air conditioning (cold on this one) , and the special ‘Mogul’ interior trim to all 6 seats, and the bulkhead deletion bar.
This one is also fitted with the optional ABS and traction control
Whilst this one hasn’t been used for any expeditions, John Gibbons (of who more later) bought it as an ex-dealer demonstrator from Wooburn Green Land Rover in February 2004, and kept it until his death in 2021. This is the first time it has come to market.
Mr Gibbons clearly wanted more performance from his G4, so in August 2004 at 5227m he sent it to Frogs Island in Abingdon, who upgraded it to Stage 2 engine spec with the kit from JE Engineering, lifting power from the standard 122hp to 195hp, and torque from the standard 300Nm to 420Nm.
He also opted for the Q-gears conversion which changes the transfer box ratio to make it better at high-speed cruising, and quieter. Unlike normal Td5’s, this one both accelerates with real purpose right through the rev range, but also doesn’t run out of puff at motorway speeds.
As it’s based on a County Station Wagon, t’s fitted with the full County pack inc electric front windows, remote alarmed locking, tinted glass, , colour coded wheelarch eyebrows etc, Boost alloys with a matching set of General Grabber tyres, mudflaps all round, and towpack
Inside it’s fitted with the original stereo, and centre cubby box. There are 4 seat belts in the load area on the original 4 individual seats.
NB please note: we have ordered, and are awaiting a new G4 pattern seat base for the front passenger seat from Exmoor Trim
NNB the Exmoor Trim new G4 pattern seat base for the front passenger seat has finally arrived!
MILEAGE, HISTORY ETC
It’s covered a warranted 98000 miles and comes with substantial history including original service book with 7 service stamps -all either specialist or main dealer, up to 49625m. Thereafter it was religiously serviced locally and there is a substantial file of service bills etc, original purchase invoice etc.
We have the original book pack and 2 sets of keys and fobs
Just 2 owners from new, Wooburn Green Land Rover, and then Mr Gibbons from early 2004.
It was cherished by Mr Gibbons up until his death, and always garaged during his 17 year ownership, which has helped preserve it in it’s original condition. The chassis appears to have never had any welding repairs, and the door frames are very good indeed. It’s never failed an MOT on structural corrosion issues, which is a testament to Mr Gibbon’s careful ownership.
It will come with a fresh 12M MOT and 6 months warranty on sale
It’s a rare opportunity to acquire an original example of a limited-edition Defender, with both superb provenance and excellent performance thanks to the stage 2 upgrade. One not to be missed.
