SPECIFICATION ETC

One of the rarest, most iconic, and most civilised Defenders ever made,  the V8 coupled with the autobox,  in the 90 body will go anywhere and tow anything,  and look fantastic anywhere.

Of course, being a factory car there are no issues of unsuitable parts, wrong gearing, badly engineered conversions etc. Totally glitch – free!

If you know your 50th’s, you’ll notice that this one is a little different from standard – it’s probably the spec that they should have had when new, of which more below.

All UK 50ths are fitted as standard with automatic transmission, pewter alloys, anti-roll bars, air conditioning , factory Safari  rollcage,  cubbybox, alarm/ immobiliser, rear bulkhead removal, NAS rear step, all of which this retains.

Externally it’s been further fitted with stainless steel front bumper, black chequerplate in place of the original silver, LED headlamps and other lamps, KBX ram air vents, spare wheel cover, mudflaps all round, and towpack with electrics.

Internally it has a pair of premium high-back heated seats in the front, trimmed in two-tone blue and grey leather and with ‘50th’ embossing, and the original 4 sideways-facing rear seats have been replaced with a pair of front-facing folding seats (in matching leather) as per a post 2007 XS model. It’s also been fitted with blue carpeting throughout in place of the original light grey, a nice Momo sports steering wheel, and a post-2002 dash assembly. It also has central locking operated from the remote.

But it’s crowning glory for me are the mechanics: the observant will see from the photos that it’s stance is just that little bit lower than standard as it’s fitted with 1in lower sports springs and dampers, but there’s a lot more to it than that, in that in 2010 at 58993 miles it went to the renowned JE Engineering in Coventry to be rebuilt to 5.0 V8 sport specification,

JE sport spec is as follows: Original 4.0 V8 engine removed and block bored out to 5.0 with new crankshaft. conrods, pistons etc, all fully balanced, with big-valve cylinder heads and JE 202 sports camshaft.

At the same time the gearbox was removed and sent to Ashcroft Transmissions for reconditioning and uprating to cope with the larger torque of the 5.0 motor. The 1.2:1 transfer box has also been changed to 1.4:1, which means it performs astoundingly but with utter tractability – it will snuffle around town all day, and makes a lovely noise.

Cost for the above was over £12000.00 in 2010 and is fully documented in the history.

MILEAGE, HISTORY ETC

Odometer reading 76000m and w e have an absolutely massive service history for this one including: the original service book with details of 24 services, a huge folder of bills back to the early 2000’s, and old MOT’s. We have the original 50th book pack as well.

Recent work includes visits to JE for new front brakes in Jan 2021, and last serviced by them in October 2020

Comes with MOT to July 2022. It will also come with our usual 6 month warranty if sold in the UK.

On  test on arrival   it performed wonderfully with a brilliant exhaust note – it’s cars like this that make me want to get up in the morning.

At the very bottom of the page, you’ll find  our usual 2 comprehensive videos – a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, with the engine shown starting and running too. These form part of the description.
