We took this 1980 Land Rover Series III Lightweight (Air Portable) 12 volt 2.25 petrol in part exchange a couple of months ago, and as we’re so busy we’re never going to get round to sorting it out, so it’s for sale on a 10-day NO RESERVE auction basis.
The (civilian) rear crossmember is badly holed, and I’m always suspicious of a freshly painted chassis – it’s probably hiding a multitude of sins.
The bulkhead is poor, especially the inner/upper footwell corners, although it is at least the correct split-type bulkhead.
Footwells have been replaced with chequerplate, and badly at that.
Bonnet is Bronze Green rather than NATO IRR drab
Fuel gauge not working
Wipers not working and one spindle missing
Too much chequerplate for my liking, both inside and out
This doesn’t imply there aren’t other things amiss, I just haven’t noted them.
Good points are:
Drives really strongly, with nice easy-starting and smooth engine and gearbox
Decent tyres
Still running it’s correct narrow axles and split rear tailgate
New exmoor trim hood
Odometer reading 71000 miles
We have a copy of the B-card showing it’s military history as 47 HG 41
Whilst is of course now MOT and RFL exempt, that rear crossmember certainly precludes roadworthiness, which is still a legal requirement.
At the very bottom of the page, you’ll find our usual 2 videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description of the vehicle
vehicle is only available via eBay no reserve auction ending 26th March 2023 at 19:48 BST – the item number is 225483650619
We expect to be paid in full by bank transfer within 4 working days of auction end, and collection within 7 days thereafter.
