Motodrome offer this 1961 example of the ever-popular Land Rover Series IIa, this one an very early IIa petrol narrow-headlight model (with almost all it’s correct early features) 88in soft top.
This one has an interesting provenance. A UK-built example, it was, according to it’s heritage certificate, originally supplied to the Central Army Vehicle Depot in Feltham, Middlesex, as a Bronze Green example. It still has it’s original military data plate showing reg 03 DM 79.
We don’t know where it went thereafter, (the last owner thought it had been a French Military Police vehicle) but the last owner repatriated it from a garage in the South of France in 2016, before registering it in the UK earlier this year.
When he found it, apart from needing general recommissioning, it was apparently unpainted and the body had been sandblasted, which may account for the rippled sides etc. He then hand painted it which was a mistake in my opinion, but it is what it is.
Fitted with towpack on what appears to be a new rear quarter chassis.
It’s fitted with a period-correct 2.25 engine (probably the original) with new Weber carburettor
Odometer reading 71000m and comes with a fair chunk of bills for the recommissioning 2016-20 plus the aforementioned Heritage Certificate, and, although legally it’s MOT exempt, it has a current MOT until November 2020
this is a genuine 1961 model with the correct sills,, chrome headlight and instrument bezels, sprung steering wheel, etc
