Also fitted with period radio, oil pressure gauge and electronic ignition.
MILEAGE, HISTORY ETC
Showing 93000 miles on the odometer, this example has one of the best history you’ll find on a Stag. The V5 shows just 3 previous keepers (apparently the first two were in the same family), and the last owner has kept it in his heated garage since 2009.
He is pretty knowledgeable about Stags, having worked for Triumph on the assembly line when this car was built. He would have built the rear axle, diff, and rear suspension on this car in 1974.
The history file is immense and includes the original stamped passport to service, original handbook and Triumph catalogue, an album of photographs from a professional restoration in 1998 (it was resprayed again in 2016), and a huge file of bills and old MOT’s.
Pertinent recent work includes:
- Complete head service by Stagtech 7000 miles ago including new valves and head gaskets
- New timing chain at 60000 miles
- New water pump
- New clutch 3000 miles ago
- Refurbished gearbox and diff
- Rebuilt braking system
- New steering rack
He’s further changed the engine oil every 1000 miles in his ownership
Please note the removable hardtop wasn’t restored during the car’s stripdown, as apparently it’s hardly ever been used, so is still in the original Magenta paint and has some corrosion on the leading edge.
On test on arrival it performed absolutely superbly, and certainly put a smile on my face – it’s truly a joy to drive with a wonderful V8 soundtrack.
